Dear Hiring Manager,
I am seeking a position as a Site Acquisition and Land Use Planning Agent. I have worked in both the
mining and oil and gas industries for the past four years and I have over four years of experience as a
land surveyor. I also manage two rental properties of my own. I have been responsible for
communicating to land owners the affect that operations will have on their property, planning and
staking power line routes and production wells, and overseeing reclamation after construction is
completed and writing lease agreements. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from
the University of Idaho in 2009 and am currently working towards a certificate of Land Surveying
through the University of Wyoming. I live in Casper, Wyoming with my wife and our three young
children and I’m working as a land surveyor for Trihydro Corporation, an environmental engineering
company.
My current work consists of staking power lines in the Powder River basin. I am responsible for planning
the route across multiple parcels of land and contacting land owners to gain access permission. I work
closely with a representative of the construction company to make sure that the planned route is
feasible. I also research deeds and section corner records in the county courthouse. I am under the
supervision of a licensed land surveyor and we work together to ensure that all data necessary for
producing accurate easements is collected.
Prior to my position at Trihydro I worked for three years as a Uranium geologist at Cameco Resources,
also in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, where I was responsible for overseeing part of the transition
of a land holding into a producing Uranium mine. The work involved managing drilling rigs and other
contractors and overseeing reclamation and reseeding projects. This involved meeting with the land
owner to discuss how operations would impact his ranching activities and reporting to the project
geologist.
Before moving to Wyoming I spent three years as a survey technician based out of Idaho and Oregon
doing different types of surveys including ALTA surveys, boundary surveys and cadastral surveys. Here I
became familiar with the public land survey system, legal descriptions, property deeds, various city and
county zoning requirements, and property record research in a number of western states including
Montana.
I believe that you will find I am highly motivated, quick to learn, and work well with all kinds of
personalities. I communicate effectively with my coworkers, take the initiative to talk
through projects with other team members and work well with minimal supervision . I am also proficient
with Microsoft Word and Excel.
I hope that you will consider my application for the position of Site Acquisition and Land Use Planning
Agent in Missoula, Montana. I would ask that you not contact my current employer (Trihydro
Corporation) but please do contact any of my former employers and references which are listed on my
resume, as I am confident that they will recommend me.
Sincerely,
Eddie Kilner
